I’ve lost track of what number we’re on now. Is it 7? Which ever one it is, the system that’s been brewing off the East coast could be the next one.
SATELLITE IMAGES INDICATE THAT THE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED BETWEEN BERMUDA AND THE SOUTHEAST U.S. COAST HAS BECOME BETTER ORGANIZED OVERNIGHT. UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE BECOMING MORE FAVORABLE FOR ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT…AND A TROPICAL DEPRESSION COULD FORM LATER TODAY. AN AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT IS SCHEDULED TO INVESTIGATE THIS SYSTEM THIS AFTERNOON. THE LOW IS FORECAST TO MOVE GENERALLY WESTWARD OR NORTHWESTWARD DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS…AND INTERESTS ALONG THE EAST COAST OF THE UNITED STATES SHOULD CLOSELY MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM.

It was just designated Subtropical Storm Gabrielle a few minutes ago, and the Hurricane Center even put us under a watch for the possibility of tropical storm gusts by tomorrow night. Probably a lot of rain with a little wind — the Hurricane Center isn’t expecting much out of this one, maybe a 55 MPH tropical storm at landfall which looks like it will be at Cape Fear at this point. Then again, you never know — especially since it’s yet to hit the Gulf Stream.
We could use the rain.
