I don’t think I can eat Quizno’s Subs anymore

I really think that Quiznos Subs got ripped off by whatever ad firm created their latest commercials. Maybe you’ve seen them. They feature a freaky looking white turd-like lump with a bad singing voice, which on closer inspection appears to be a dead mouse with really bad teeth and creepy bulgy eyes. And then there’s that pirate looking thing playing the guitar. I don’t know about you, but a dead mouse singing really badly about Quizno’s doesn’t make me want to eat a Quizno’s sub anytime soon. There really isn’t anything about those two (yes, there are two of them) commercials that make me even want to step near a Quizno’s.

  3. Thank you!!! I’ve been thinking the same thing since I saw that commercial, and today I decided to look up quizno’s dead mouse on google to see if anyone else recognized this as a dead mouse. Your blog entry was the first (and only) comment on the subject.

  4. The first time I saw the add I immediately thought “Hey! This is like these amateurish animation so popular on the web and web-communities”. I could not stand it and search for comments on the web (and got here).
    I was initiated to this type of animation by several “nerd” types of people with a generally “young” (read almost immature) spirit.
    I think the ads are aimed to attract the young and Internet type. When I was a kid, they would have called this “an ad for the MTV generation”, the targeted audience loves it, but the old conservative types find it awful!

    I don’t really like it personally, but they do hit home! Quizno leaves an imprint on my brain. As for a boycott (not eating there because of the ad), I think there is a lot worst product to boycott; like Nike because of child labor and horrible work conditions, or Wall-Mart pushing factories out of business and bringing down the average American level of life.

  5. I LOVE THE QUIZNO’S DEAD MOUSE / PIRATE PLAYING A GUITAR COMMERCIALS. I LOVE THEM. THE TURD LIKE FORM OF THE YOUNG RODENTS MADE ME CRAVE LUNCH MEATS. I RAN RIGHT OUT AND GOT A STEAMY SANDWITCH. THANKS QUIZNO’S FOR MAKING MY DAY, YEAR, LIFE COMPLETE! MY BOYFRIEND “OUR GUY” AND I WILL BE DINING THERE ON VALENTINES DAY.

  6. I’m not saying to boycott Quizno’s just because of a dumb commercial. If you like Quizno’s (and I do…especially the pepper bar), by all means eat there. I’m just reacting to the commercial and saying that if I hadn’t eaten there before, the new commercials definitely wouldn’t make me want to try the place out.

  7. Perhaps it’s my base sense of humor, but I laugh myself sick when I see either of these two commercials!! I have been driving my husband nuts for the past week, bursting out with, “They have a pepper bar!” in that ridiculous voice at least once an hour and then laughing my rear off. I’m giggling now at the thought!! Kudos to the ad team that came up with an idea that, good or bad, has created such a furor!!

  12. That is so funny… I was on a mission to look up what the hell those things are on the Quizno’s commercial. I am the only one I know who actually likes the commercials, and I, too, go around the house surprising myself by blurting out, “…they have a pepper bar!” and then procede to giggle for a few minutes. My family and coworkers think I am insane. Anyway, it looks like the general concensus is that they look like rats/rodents and that is what brought me to this site. I do have to agree that this was probably not the best ad campaign Quizno’s could have chosen, because most of the people I know find them repulsive.

  13. It feels good to find people that think like I do. The ads repulse me. They’re horrible. SO much so, that I couldn’t have even told you ANY of the lyrics from the jingles. ICKY. I’m also quite suprised to read that some people actually LIKE them! Like I’ve always said.. “It takes ALL kinds to fill this big ol’ world.”
    At this moment it also occurs to me that if not for these “horrible” ads, I would never have done a search on “Quizno’s Subs”. Maybe the ads are effective, in a sense, even to those of us who don’t like them.

  14. I am writing to say how HILARIOUS the new Quizno’s commercials are! The Spongemonkeys have made the most entertaining sandwich ad ever. We are definite converts from Subway to Quizno’s! We too find ourselves repeating the raspy “pepper bar” line at every appropriate (or not) moment! The strange little Spongemonkeys sure make Quizno’s stick in your head, not to mention they themselves are soooo funny! It is obviously a brave venture by Quizno’s, as some people are upset by things they don’t understand. I’m not familiar with the Spongemonkeys; but they have started a cult following here in Alaska. We want Spongemonkey promotional items, memorabilia, etc. We must have these two little bizarre characters on a T-shirt or a key fob or something! Way to go Quizno’s! I am tired of boring, predictable, intelligence insulting ads. This ad gets your attention, makes you watch closely, and obviously creates a memory! How much more successful can an ad be?

  15. I loooooooooove the new commercial. I think it’s funny, and very original. We already know that Quiznos Subs are excellent despite of what they decide to use for their commercials. Hey, you have that stinky chihuahua for Taco Bell and people are still buying tacos. It’s all in your mind.

  16. I nearly die from laughing every time either of the comercials come on! I would like to learn the guitar chords so i can actually play the entire song instead of ALSO just bursting out at random intervals with “THEY HAVE A PEPPER BAR!” in that astoundingly annoying voice. Oh! The joy!

  17. I think that to say the least, the quizno’s commercials have ovbiously done their job if they have gotten so many people interested. When I first saw the commercials I was freaked out by these dead rat looking things and to a point I was even scared of them. but that all passed and now everytime they come on I just get quite and listen. I don’t know what to think, but they are quite mesmorising with their bulging eyes . . . make you think . . .

Well, the ultimate purpose of a commercial is to get people’s attention and make them think about the product being advertised, and I guess that’s what the new Quizno’s commercials do, no matter how funny or repulsive you think they are. If it does that, then I guess the commercial is successful,

  26. I love those commercials! Yeah the teeth are scary but who can resist the turd/dead rat? The phrases are catchy! EAT QUIZNO’S SUB! I was singing it all day and even got my friends to join in! I never liked Quizno’s but hey, I love the commercials! and remember They have a pepper bar!!!

  28. GROSS. Like many of you, I was curious about peoples reaztion to the Quiznos mouse ad. And I am quite shocked and surprised at how many people actually think these two disgusting creatures are funny and make you want to eat these subs!
    This are dead mice! Have you lost your minds?!! Think about what Quiznos is telling you. Eating subs with rat meat is okay. The peppers in the pepper bar are just more mouse droppings. Plus these mice are dead. That’s not cheese you are smelling.
    This ad is SO GROSS. I urge everyone to voice their opinions on the real Quiznos web site.

  29. GROSS GROSS GROSS!!! Whoever is actually eating subs at Quiznos after seeing those cracked out mouse ads is absolutely F-ing crazy. Those mice have got to be the most disgusting and psychotic looking creatures I’ve ever seen. The singing mouse sounds like he’s been drinking since 9am and his tone is way off. I use to eat at Quiznos subs and was always a little sketchy about the health conditions of the place. And after seeing those GROSS mice, like hell will I ever, ever, eat another Quiznos sub again.
    Yuck!

  31. I think the the Quizno”s commercial is a little off but it keeps people talking about it and isnt that the point. My sister and I went on a day trip and talked about it and sang the song all day long.Its gross and funny at the same time.

  35. THE WORST COMMERCIAL I EVER SAW
    When I first saw this commercial, this started to annoy me. It drive me crazy. This is funny in a bad way. I was thinking if nobody else I know as my relatives or friends likes this, then I don’t like it either. This is silly. I will put some detail HERE about this commercial & it will be a bad review for the people who hasn’t seen it. It has a rat that looks like a dead rat. It’s legs are curled up. It has a human-looking face & it sings a silly-weird voice. The teeth it has looks teeth that aren’t brushed that need to be brushed. It grossed me out. I think that even the pirate rat playing the guitar & not singing at all is still silly. It has the same kind of teeth the singing rat has. When the rat is singing the part, “It is good to us”, I would sing the part “It is bad to us”, because I don’t like rats eating Quizno’s Subs, they are gross & mean. I think it would be better if they do a rabbit instead of a rat. It would be okay with me when rabbits eats Quizno’s subs. I’m thinking of doing a MST3K spinoff called Mystery Science Theater 3001 on the Moon & play this commercial. I won’t tell you any scenes I will do in this film, because it will spoil the episode.

  37. This commercial is now a family sing along. What I want to know is how did they make those creatures. I think they took parts from Micheal Jackson, Carrot Top, and Cousin It. If you are one of those people that have not seen this commercial, you probably still go to Quizno’s.

  42. why would quizno’s put up an add like that? The song is funny and all but those things are RAT NASTY. They make you want to barf. i don’t get it the spokesman could have been at least a little decent looking. those things are not even close to being a little decent.

  45. i love the spongemonkeys sooo much,even if i’m really late for something and they’re on TV,i’ll stop to watch them,and i sing the songs all the time.in short,THEY ROCK!!!
