Waaa!!! Camera’s stuck!
I think the camera (an Olympus C-4000Z) must have taken a bump while the lens tube was extended because now it won’t retract or extend anymore. I can hear the motor whirring like it’s trying to move the lens into position, but it’s not doing anything.
Crap.
This is not good. What am I going to do without a camera??!!
I suppose I could try to take it apart and try to fix it. On the other hand, this would be a good opportunity to upgrade to a new camera, although I’d still be without one until I could save up enough $. Or I could go the safe (and probably expensive) route of sending it in for repair.
The inner geek in me wants to do the first and second options. The rest of me wants to send it in. I suppose it’s a good thing for the camera that I don’t have a set of screwdrivers small enough to take the camera apart. At least not yet anyway…
Oh, what to do, what to do…

Eugene, My first digital camera (Canon) cost $500 and had 2.1 megapixels. It came with a 8MPG card (good for about 12 shots.
After 4 years I paid $299 for a 4.1 Megapixel Canon (same model, just larger files) so my batteries, charger, memory cards, etc all worked.
Now I’m looking at a 7 megapixel for even less. Oh and memory cards now come with 2.0 gig capacity!
My point is…get a new camera.
I am thinking more along the lines of a gadget freak, where you get to go buy some coole’ type screwdrivers and maybe some other tools that allow you to take apart the camera. Then you get to shop for new tools, potentially fix the camera and then have a good reason to replace the camera when you have decided that you don’t know anything about what’s inside a digital camera.
That’s what I would do!
