Fortran .NET: Fortran within the .NET initiative. Unlike ‘Visual Basic .NET’, this does not break existing codes; unlike C++ .NET this does not require flagging parts of code as unmanaged code; unlike C# .NET this does not require learning a ‘me too’ new language; unlike J# .NET this does not attempt to fudge language support.
If you want to write mathematical software, and want this to be easily read, and efficient: then use Fortran. If you want use this with other .NET components then simplify life and use Fortran .NET.
Your post suggests that you may be confusing Fortran with the 1966 version of Fortran; equivalent to confusing C++ with K&R C, but unlike C++ with K&R C Fortran 95 will compile Fortran 66. And for some reason to equate current Fortran with Fortran 66 seems to mark people as understanding modern languages, but to confuse modern C with K&R C shows their inability to keep up-to-date.
