Moving time

After a couple of months running with MovableType 5 at blog.ab4ug.net, I’ve decided that it’s time to close up shop here and start off fresh and clean.

This will be the last entry here at blog.imabug.net, but the site and archives will remain. The blog here has been active for nearly 10 years and has been through numerous MovableType upgrades starting somewhere around 2.1. The database has seen beta versions, upgrades, downgrades, switched back and forth between MT and OpenMelody at least a couple of times and seems to be showing its age these days.

Time to start fresh. New posts will show up at imablog.net, a shiny new installation of MovableType 5.2.3 with a brand new database.

blog.AB4UG.net

In preparation for archiving this blog to start fresh, I started up a new blog over at http://blog.ab4ug.net/ where I think I’ll post most of my electronics and amateur radio adventures.

It’s a vanilla MovableType 5.2 set up right now. Nothing fancy, but functional. The archives here at Imablog will stay and I’ll probably start over with a new MT5.2 install and database. Still mulling something Drupal-y though. Haven’t quite decided yet.

I’ll probably cross-post material at the AB4UG blog here also so that nobody feels left out.

Broken comments (again)

I’ve been getting reports from people that they’re getting a mangled response page after posting/attempting to post comments (not that there are a lot of them to begin with).
I’m not entirely sure what’s going on but given the age of the blog, it’s possible there’s something messed up in the database.

I’ve had on my TODO list for a while now to restart the blog using a fresh MT5 install, fresh DB and republishing what’s in the current blog into an archive folder.

What’s that you say? Just use WordPress?

Well, I suppose I could. All the cool kids seem to be doing it. I’ve also given some though to creating a Drupal based thing where I could include other non-blog type content.

Maybe I’ll take this opportunity to do drink more of the Drupal Kool-Aid.

In the meantime, feel free to leave a comment on my Facebook page (blog posts get crosposted there) or Google+ page, send me a tweet, or just email me.

Back to MovableType?

MovableType 5.2 is almost out. From what I’ve seen on the MT and ProNet mailing lists, 5.2 is a pretty good release.

A while ago I moved the blog over to the OpenMelody, the OS fork of MT 4. With activity on the OpenMelody project slowing down and seemingly heading into dormancy, I’ve been giving some thought to moving back to MT. It will take some planning, but I think there shouldn’t be too many problems, except maybe for the archives. For some reason the archives always break.

An attempt to migrate to Melody

Have been thinking about migrating the blog to either Melody or MovableType 5.1. For this little blog, MT51 might be a bit of overkill, but there are a lot of interesting looking new features. I’ve had a Melody blog running on my desktop for a few weeks now. Runs pretty well, looks nice, familiar interface.

There is some behind the scenes work that needs to be done first to install some missing Perl modules. Then I need to plan out how to execute the migration.
