Reunioning

Had a great time at the reunion. Much fun, much seeing people I hadn’t see in 20 years. I think I ended up spending more time taking pictures of people than I did talking to them, but I caught up with the people I wanted to see.

There were more people there than I expected so things were very busy. There were a few people I hoped to see but didn’t show, some that I did see that I wasn’t expecting and a lot of people that I was expecting. Everybody still looked mostly the same so I managed to recognize most everyone without having to resort to the name tag check ducking manoeuver.

I think I’ve got a couple hundred pictures I need to sort through and filter out, so it’ll be a little bit before I can get pictures posted.
More later.

Happy Canada Day!

Almost forgot what day it was!

Ticket home

Booked my trip back home for the reunion this fall. Thankfully this time it’s only a 1 layover trip (stopping in Chicago’s O’Hare) so it’s only about 7 hours of flight time. Much better than my last trip home where I had to go CHS->BWI->YYG (Toronto)->YEG (Edmonton) and spent about 12 hours in the air and in airports.

The ticket still isn’t cheap, but it’s a lot more convenient only having to stop once.

Now I just need to find a place to stay…

Aquarium happenings

From the Aquarium‘s Turtle Lady

We will be celebrating the 7th Anniversary of the South Carolina Aquarium (SCA) on the beach at Isle of Palms County Park. On Saturday, May 19, “St. Simon” and “Lighthouse” will return to the ocean after rehabilitation at the SCA’s Turtle Hospital. Everyone is invited to come out at 4 pm to participate in a beach sweep and children will have a chance to run through an interactive Turtle Excluder Device. There will be opportunities to gather information about various SCA and SC Department of Natural Resources conservation programs. The turtles will arrive ~5 pm to be released. “Lighthouse” will be outfitted with a satellite transmitter so we can all track his/her movements after the release. This tracking is part of a research project to get more information about sea turtles with Debilitated Turtle Syndrome, an illness that affects many juvenile loggerheads along our coast.
This event is open to the public so forward the e-mail to your friends and family! Come early to get involved in the activities. I encourage carpooling…this is a Saturday in late May and the beaches will be busy. There is a parking lot at the County Park as well as a city lot and both have costs associated. For SCA volunteers and staff, reciprocity passes will work for the County Park, but not the city lot. If the lots are full, you’re on your own! I look forward to seeing you all out on the beach.

Spring Flinging with the Labs

Yesterday turned out to be a great day for CSCLRC’s Spring Fling match. Not too hot, nice breeze to keep most of the bugs away and plenty of dogs.

The event was open to all dogs, not just labs, so we had a few show up, like this Portuguese water dog (one of two)

a few Great Danes

and even a pair of Staffies

There was even an Australian Shepherd and a Saluki out to join in the fun.

Naturally there were Labs, and where there are Labs, there are Lab puppies!

The biggest part of the match was conformation, but since it was a B match, it’s less about showing off the best dog and more about getting dogs used to the ring and having fun.

Actually, it’s all about having fun, so there was also a costume contest to wrap things up (along with other fun events like fastest biscuit eating, dress up and ball and spoon races)
