Irish pub invaded by bloggers!

Maybe I should save that title for Monday’s post…

Looks like there will be a pretty good turnout for tomorrow’s blogger gathering at Madra Rua. I’ve never been there before, but I’m told it’s pretty good. I’m counting on a decently poured Guiness tomorrow. Looking forward to meeting up with everyone again.

In the meantime, there is plenty for me to do this weekend. Stuff to do in the garage, dog class for Simba, revisions to make on the paper I submitted among other things. There’s also some blogging I need to catch up on too.

Definitely more later.

Happy birthday to me!

Today being my birthday, I decided to spoil myself and take the day off. After dropping the wife off at school, the dogs and I spent the morning together hanging out at the dog park, visiting Dolittles for a new bag of food and some treats, and then checking out the new Palmetto Paws/Good Dog Bakery for more treats and to visit.

After picking up the wife after her classes, we went back to the dog park to let the dogs run around some more and then headed back home.

Thanks to a ThinkGeek Christimas/birthday gift certificate from my brother, the stuff I bought with it also arrived today so I even got to open a birthday present 🙂 (not that it was much of a surprise or anything). More geeky fun things to enjoy.

To go along with the mug that reminds me to RTFM (bought that last year), I got the vi mug to remind me of all the commands I’m always RTFM‘ing for. A HAL 9000 memory unit will let me carry more stuff around (wish I could plug it into my brain). This spiffy Power shirt should make sure nobody gets offended by my pasty white torso. Just so the wife doesn’t feel left out, I got her a caffeine mug so she can keep her tea warm while she’s in class.

It’s been a pretty good day so far. I think I’ll go putter around some more.

Happy New Year!

Simba, Nala and the rest of us want to wish every one a Happy New Year and the best of everything for 2007!

Simba and the barking clock

Yesterday we went out to see Eragon (not a bad movie, probably more on it later) and then stopped by Marion Square just in time to see the fireworks go off. Nice little show, and the closest we’d been to fireworks for a long time. Lots of people milling about enjoying the lights and the concert going on just beforehand. Then it was a quick stroll down King St to see what people were up to (Mellow Mushroom seemed to be having a big to-do going on). Then it was back home for a quiet New Year’s ring-in with some mandatory rice, collards and black-eyed peas, which the wife says are supposed to bring good luck for the year.

It’s 20°C this morning and the rain looks like it’s going to stay away long enough for us to make our traditional New Year’s beach walk. See you later with pictures from Folly.

Christmas greetings

The dogs would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday filled with lots of treats, biscuits and chew toys.

Blogger hour (or two, or three)

Tonight’s blogger gathering over at the Dog & Duck was pretty good. Had about 13 show up including a couple of new people (Chris from Signal 46 and JJ from I’m not drunk enough for this). Plenty of good random conversation to enjoy over some reasonably tasty bar grub. A little bit of current events, some shared winter stories, the latest bloggings in the lowcountry blog-o-verse, Geoff conducting a few straw polls about UK vs US differences and other topics. And picture taking of course.

They have some fabulously hot wings that I enjoyed. I told the waitress I wanted a dozen wings as hot as they come (they call them Burners). She was a little bit hesitant about it and warned me about the last person who ordered them and ended up sending them back, but I told her to bring them on. Not the absolute hottest I’ve ever had, but pretty close and hot enough to make my nose run a little.

Fun time tonight. Looking forward to the next gathering.
