Taking a break from studying for my Biomaterials midterm to take a cruise through the Lowcountry blog-o-sphere. LCB barfed on me while I was in the middle of writing this so I’ll post it here and then repost it at LCB when it gets better.

Time for another giveaway over at Home-Ec 101! This time it’s a copy of The Taste of Home Cookbook, Cooks who Care Edition.

Ok, seriously, I thought the mosquitos and palmetto bugs were big around here. WTH is this thing?

Look how big it is compared to the cell phone! We are not sure what it is, but he found it in someone yard while he was working and decided to bring it home to us. (so much for flowers….sweet, huh?) So, he took pictures of it & then let it go in the yard. Im hoping to never see it again!

According to ParkWestPalooza, the FTC is getting ready to revise rules regarding endorsements and testimonials to catch up with blogging and social media.

The F.T.C. said that beginning on Dec. 1, bloggers who review products must disclose any connection with advertisers, including, in most cases, the receipt of free products and whether or not they were paid in any way by advertisers, as occurs frequently. The new rules also take aim at celebrities, who will now need to disclose any ties to companies, should they promote products on a talk show or on Twitter. A second major change, which was not aimed specifically at bloggers or social media, was to eliminate the ability of advertisers to gush about results that differ from what is typical – for instance, from a weight loss supplement.

Tartlette back from a trip to San Francisco shares some of the photos of her trip. You may want to cover up your keyboard for this.

Over the years, I’ve learned that the Charleston area is just full of interesting people that do all kinds of things. Meet the dean of College of Charleston’s Graduate School.

Nikki highlights some changes that CARTA is bringing.

After having caught a lot of negative feedback from local residents, CARTA has been making headlines lately in a good way. Their newest adventure is the proposed North Charleston Regional Intermodal Center which will expand existing services and could potentially serve as a one stop shop for Amtrak, Greyhound, local buses, and even light rail! If you have thoughts on this project, CARTA will be hosting a public information meeting regarding the proposed Center at the North Charleston City Hall, 3rd Floor Buist Room, 2500 City Hall Lane, N. Charleston, SC on Thursday, 10/08/09 from 6PM to 8PM. My first suggestion… pick a sexier name.

Earl has a few things to say about Gov. Sanford’s Employment roundtable

WildFlour sounds like a place worth checking out the next time you’re wandering around the bottom of King St and feel like snacking on something sweet.

North Charleston is looking for it’s 2010 Citizen of the Year. Know anybody worthy of the honour?

It’s autumn, so that means it’s time for pumpkin food. Pumpkin spice muffins by Cottage Industrialist.

There are a few fun events coming up the next couple of weekends. There’s Blognic ’09 October 17 at Wannamaker County Park. Come on out to share an afternoon at the park with fellow bloggers! Meet over at the picnic tables near the kid’s playground.

The next weekend, October 24, is Charleston’s very first Barcamp! Come on out and be prepared to learn a few things, and maybe even teach some people the stuff you know.

3 years of meetup-ing

Hard to believe, but May 16 will make it 3 years now since the inaugural Lowcountry Bloggers meetup (yes Chuck, I know you and Joan and a couple others met up before that).

From that very first meetup at Toucan Reef (now called Harbor Grille), the Lowcountry blogging community has grown from a few dozen blogs to well over 400 that are being rounded up and aggregated at lowcountrybloggers.com and lowcountryblogroll.com. It’s a community that’s grown to encompass not just bloggers, but Twitter users and just about every other social web thing out there.

Doesn’t seem like it’s been only three years. I feel like I’ve known the people I’ve met through LCB a lot longer than three years. I’ve met a lot of really great people through their blogs (and tweets), and being able to meet them in person has been pretty awesome.

To celebrate the occasion, I’ve checked with Harbor Grille to make sure their patio will be available and they’ve said it should be no problem. So join me and a few others returning to the scene of the crimewhere Dan helped kick everything off.

Oh, and don’t feel like you have to be a blogger to join in. Come hang out with us even if you’re a non-blogger. We don’t bite (pretty sure most of us don’t anyway).

Roundup subbing

While Heather’s off enjoying her rainy Myrtle Beach vacation, I’ll fill in a bit with my small subset of TBB and some random clicking through the blogroll.

Big news this week was the death of George Carlin, marked by several LC bloggers.

Allison at modern.charleston notes the North Charleston Farmer’s Market has moved.
Geoff goes from pirate to legit.

From illegally bitorrenting some of the tracks in the first place, to legally downloading all of them off of iTunes, I then decided that what I really wanted was a copy of CD to keep forever, because – well – there’s something still a teeny bit odd about buying something and JUST having it as an AAC or MP3 file isn’t there. Isn’t there?

YDPC is back with more pictures of tasty nom-noms.

Her rhubarb crisp is really really good.

A poop story only a parent could come up with I suppose 🙂

One day I dumped the entire grocery bag full of dirty underwear into the washer without sorting it first. I washed the load and then transferred it to the dryer. About fifteen minutes later I started to notice that my house smelled odd, which was funny since I was cleaning my kitchen at the moment. But rather than the smell of Comet wafting through my home, there was another “odor” that I couldn’t put my finger on. Thirty minutes later the dryer buzzed that my laundry was done. At this point the house smelled FUNKY.

Don’t forget the last Thursday meetup is coming up in a couple of days!

Afternoon bloggage

It must be a quiet news day because there doesn’t seem to be much going on in the Lowcountry blogland this afternoon. Either that or heatstroke has hit everyone.

Anyway, Margo shares some pictures of the newest Lowcountry blogger (in training).

In local bloggage today

Heather is busy being a new mom (a big congrats to the new parents!) so I thought I’d fill in and do a little round-upping today.

Since I don’t have the complete TBB in my feed reader, I’m going to use the slightly smaller subset over at Lowcountry Blogroll for the round-up. BTW, if you want your blog to be included in the Lowcountry Blogroll, fire off a message to Brian with a link to your blog and/or RSS feed.

Joan will be empty-nesting it soon. Try not to turn into a cat-lady Joan :). She also informs us that Gene Glave‘s one woman show, Mammologues is starting at the Village Playhouse on August 26th.

Pam sends another grant on its way and shares ferns and flowers with us.

Your thoughts on SC’s new license plate? Our resident dental student isn’t a big fan of the new design.

Probably more later when people wake up and start their daily blogging.
