Kinda buggy

I have been spotting and squishing a number of these little bugs around the house this evening

Not entirely sure where all these bugs are coming from or what to make of this sudden invasion. I squish a bunch, and then a few minutes later I see another one crawling around on the wall. They look a lot like the bug Dan squished at the SMCCHS meetup last week. He said it was a Formosan termite and that they were swarming this time of year. It looks like a bunch of them swarmed into the house this weekend.

Except for my room and the bathroom, I haven’t noticed them anywhere else in the house yet. This will definitely require further investigation.

Goose goose goose

A few weeks ago, there were two families of Canada geese in the neighbourhood. One pair had 4 goslings and the other had 3 goslings. One family seems to have disappeared though leaving this one with the run of the neighbourhood.

The goslings have gotten pretty big over the past few weeks. It’s been fun watching them wander around the neighbourhood and seeing the goslings grow up from teeny tiny balls of fluff to slightly larger balls of fluff.

The geese leave a lot of droppings lying around though. That doesn’t really bother me except that for some reason Nala considers goose droppings to be something of a delicacy, so taking the dogs for a walk can be a bit challenging.

Cliq: Almost month 4

Almost 4 months and two firmware updates later. Contacts list got corrupted somehow so I had to do a hard reset on it about a week ago. Before it was doing quite nicely with battery life, but now post-reset the Cliq is back to its old battery sucking ways.

I’ve gone through and changed all the notification frequencies of all the apps I could find to longer time intervals, which has helped some. It’s still not back to pre-reset battery consumption levels though. Will have to dig some more to see if there’s anything else I can change.

The number for the cell phone has been seeded in a few places and to a few people. At least I know the area code and prefix now.

So much for plans

My time in Albuquerque is over. I was hoping for an uneventful flight back to Charleston, but those have been dashed so far with a delayed flight out of ABQ. Because of a short layover time, I’ll probably end up missing the connecting flight and end up getting stuck in overnight in Houston.

So my plans to do the bridge run this year will probably be dashed.

Two months of building

If you’ve been around the MUSC campus at all in the past year, you know there’s a whole lot of constructing going on. In the past two months, the two new buildings being built (for bioengineering research and drug discovery) have gone from this

to this

While watching some of the construction going on yesterday, the thought occurred to me that the entire sum of human existence can be summarized in a few words: transforming one form of dirt into another form of dirt.
