Finally sorted through all the pictures from my trip to Edmonton and posted a bunch in my gallery. Go check them out.
This is the corner grocery store/diner that Dad used to own when we were kids. Mom used to take us there on weekends where we’d either hang out in the back or help out getting stuff off the shelves or bagging. Sometimes we even got to play with the calculator. Dad eventually closed the diner part (turning it into more grocery store space) and then closed the store for good in the early 80s. It seems to have been a succession of pawn shops ever since then.
Back in Charleston
After a largely uneventful and tiring 10 hour trip, I’m finally back in Charleston where it’s decidedly warmer and more humid than back home in Edmonton. Much unpacking and laundry to do and many many photos to sort through to figure out which ones get posted.
And then it’s back to work.
I suppose the vacation has to end some time.
Almost time to leave
Well, my time back home is finally drawing to a close. Tomorrow I’ll be flying off back to Charleston via Denver and Washington D.C. (I suppose I could use the extra reading time). I’m sad to have to leave, but it will be nice to get back to the dogs. I’m sure there’s a bunch of stuff a work waiting for me to get caught up on.
It’s been a great trip where I got to reconnect with a bunch of high school friends and catch up with others. It felt good to hang out with friends again, and I was reminded once again of what a great city Edmonton really is and what a great place it is to live. It’s not something most people really appreciate until they leave and then come back.
I’m definitely not waiting another 7 years before my next trip home.
Busy tropics
While I’m here spending the last few days of my vacation enjoying pleasantly cool Edmonton fall days, the tropics are really heating up with TS Karen, TD 13 in the Gulf, two systems off the coast of Florida and over Hispanola and two tropical waves coming off Africa.
Hopefully nothing happens before I get back.
Seduced to the Mac side
I’ve been staying with friends here in Edmonton, and they have a very nice iMac. Like Jared, I’m feeling the pull back to Apple after using it for a while.
I’m certainly no stranger to Apple since the very first computer I laid tiny little fingers on was an Apple ][+ and my first computer was an Apple ][e, My all time favourite computing platform was the NeXT, but it’s been PCs since then.
After seeing Apple’s new iMacs, I was starting to get tempted to get one to replace the aging Dell I have at home. Now I’m more tempted.
