Smokiness

I think this was probably behind the prolonged fire alarm late this morning

Please be advised: The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Smoke
Advisory for the area. A large area of smoke being generated by fires
burning across southern Georgia and Northern Florida is impacting parts of
Charleston and southern Colleton counties.

First named storm of 2007!

Well, this is interesting. The National Hurricane Center has given that storm system swirling off the coast a name, Andrea, making it the first named storm of the season almost a month before the 2007 hurricane season officially starts.

AT 11 AM EDT…1500 UTC…A TROPICAL STORM WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED ALONG THE SOUTHEAST COAST OF THE UNITED STATES FROM ALTAMAHA SOUND GEORGIA SOUTHWARD TO FLAGLER BEACH FLORIDA. A TROPICAL STORM WATCH MEANS THAT TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE WITHIN THE WATCH AREA…GENERALLY WITHIN THE NEXT 36 HOURS.

ANDREA IS MOVING GENERALLY TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 3 MPH. A CONTINUED SLOW MOTION AND A GRADUAL TURN TOWARD THE SOUTHWEST ARE EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS. ALONG THIS TRACK…THE CENTER OF ANDREA IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN OFFSHORE OF THE U.S. COAST THROUGH AT LEAST THURSDAY MORNING.

According to the National Weather Service radar, there’s a narrow but intense band of rain that looks to be heading our way within the next hour or so, so it looks like it’s going to be a wet afternoon.

Bumpity bump…

Waaa!!! Camera’s stuck!

I think the camera (an Olympus C-4000Z) must have taken a bump while the lens tube was extended because now it won’t retract or extend anymore. I can hear the motor whirring like it’s trying to move the lens into position, but it’s not doing anything.

Crap.

This is not good. What am I going to do without a camera??!!

I suppose I could try to take it apart and try to fix it. On the other hand, this would be a good opportunity to upgrade to a new camera, although I’d still be without one until I could save up enough $. Or I could go the safe (and probably expensive) route of sending it in for repair.
The inner geek in me wants to do the first and second options. The rest of me wants to send it in. I suppose it’s a good thing for the camera that I don’t have a set of screwdrivers small enough to take the camera apart. At least not yet anyway…

Oh, what to do, what to do…

Spiderman 3 is showing at the Charleston IMAX. I think I have to go see it this weekend. Anybody interested in joining me?
