Tungsten T3 farewell soon?

It seems like the battery on my Tungsten T3 is starting to fade and drain faster than it used to. I found it at 25% battery after leaving it off the cradle for a couple of days.

I suppose I could do a battery replacement and keep it going for a few more years. It’s getting pretty close to 3 years since I’ve had it (purchased off eBay after my first one got waterlogged) so I’m not sure if there’s much point in doing that. I’ve been using my Cliq more for PIM stuff lately even though it’s not perfect and not nearly as good as PalmOS was at that kind of stuff. The Android version of Pimlical is helping with that though.

I’ll probably end up letting my T3 retire to the Drawer of Old Gear.

A little on the breezy side, but a nice morning to head out to the dog park with the dogs.

Red Bull Illume in Charleston

The photo meetup group was lucky enough to score several invites to the opening bash on Friday for the Red Bull Illume photo exhibit currently on display (through March 27) in Marion Square.

We arrived about an hour before sunset and set about doing the things photographers do.
Being the pollen season, everything was getting washed up a bit before the lighting up took place.

There were drinks and snacks (provided by Caviar and Bananas) and lots of people hanging out. Then it was time to turn on the lights and show off the photos.

There were some pretty amazing photos in the exhibit. It’s open from 7 – 11 PM until March 28. Definitely worth checking out.

SHDH CHS

Today’s SHDH Charleston gathering was another good gathering of the dev geeks with around 17 people or so showing up.

The afternoon was filled with active discussion and collaboration over different projects, talking over ideas and concepts. There was talk about recommendation systems, streaming video to Android devices, POSSCON and other conferences and other miscellaneous topics.

I spent most of my time working on some utilities to help me massage and manage some of the mesh data generated by MCNP until the battery in my laptop died. Spent the rest of the afternoon just hanging out, reading more about Gnuplot and chatting with the others.

Had a good time at the second SHDH. Looking forward to the next one.

Review: Home-Ec 101: Skills for Everyday Living

This is the review I posted on Amazon.com.

Full of hints, tips and techniques written in that funny, quirky Heather style. If you know Heather (I do), you’ll know what I mean. If you don’t know Heather, you’ll get an idea of the kind of person she’s like as you read the book. Perhaps the most entertaining book on home economics you’ll ever read.

Heather’s book, like her website, is divided into 4 sections: Cook it, Clean it, Wash it, Fix it. Each section includes tips, techniques, hints and suggestions for dealing with various parts of the household, interspersed with posts from the website. You’ll find the toilet cleaning tutorial on pg 66. Basic mending techniques for clothing are covered in chapter 10. Save time dealing with laundry by skipping the underwear folding (pg 119). Do you burn water in the kitchen? Head straight for the Cook it section.

It’s a great book to read that will leave you chuckling and ready to take on the house.
