An evening with Barenaked Ladies

This evening I got to see Barenaked Ladies in concert for the first time. Not sure how, but I’ve managed to go this long without seeing them live.

The show was a blast, and the Performing Arts Center was pretty much packed.

The concert opened with Serena Ryder, who I enjoyed more than I thought I would. I thought her acoustic guitar set was well done and very dynamic. Listening to her sing made me think of a combination of Melissa Etheridge and Alannah Myles (but not quite so country).

BNL definitely did not disappoint with the show today, with a mix from their new album (All in Good Time) and older songs. Even their theme song from Big Bang Theory made it into the set. It was different listening to them without Steven Page, but they were still awesome.

Now I just need The Tragically Hip to come to Charleston.

Geeky finds

Thanks to @physicistlisa, I discovered the awesome coolness that is GeekSoap. I couldn’t resist buying a few.

There’s the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy soap at the top, the d20 soap on a rope and the d20 massage soap at the bottom.

Pretty cool stuff. Haven’t used them yet; they’re almost too cool to use! Plus you have to love the fact that her main website is The Pink Toque. That’s such a great word, toque.
I followed @geeksoap to @GeekyLyndsay, who makes these cool dice bags, including this uber-cool caffeine dice bag. If I was still gaming and still had mounds of dice, I’d probably have to buy one of those too. I’ll even overlook the fact that she’s from Calgary because of the coolness of her dice bags.

Dragoncon 2010

It’s on for Dragoncon 2010! Hotel reservation made (according to Rick anyway) and pass purchased. Looking forward to my second one. Should be a fun time!

Doggie hotel

Seems like all the dogs coming here are staying longer than expected. Macho arrived this weekend, and thought he was going to be staying the week, but it turns out it’ll be more like two weeks. There will be four dogs in the house for a little longer than planned. It won’t be the first time there have been four dogs in the house though.

Definitely need to keep up with the vacuuming though. Just the carpet alone was a one Dyson job after one day. I expect that there will be much time spent at dog parks over the next couple of weeks.

Bugs R Us

Saturday’s bug invasion was followed yesterday with the appearance of similar but smaller bug carcasses scattered about the house. These new ones were about half the size of the ones I was squishing the other day. Haven’t spotted any new bugs crawling around since Saturday though.

Will have to check the garage and around the outside of the house and see if there’s anything going on.

Wonder if I should call the bug guy in to check things out.

Update: Bug guy confirmed that the bugs were Formosan termites that have been swarming recently. Said they sneak into houses, and then die because there are no good places inside houses to establish colonies. After checking out underneath the house, he said everything was good and that any other termites that get into the house will probably die too.
