An emergency vet West of the Ashley

Previously if you had an after hours pet emergency, you could go to one of two emergency vet clinics: one in North Charleston on West Montague Ave and another over in Mt. Pleasant on Pine Hollow Rd (just off 17 near Dragoon Rd). That left people living West of the Ashley with a bit of a drive to get to either of those clinics. Based on previous experience, that trip to the emergency vet can seem like a really long one even when you’re not that far away.

Now there’s a much closer option for people living West of the Ashley, located at the Charleston Veterinary Referral Center just off the Glenn McConnell Parkway at Shelby Ray Ct.

Having an emergency vet out there should make it much easier for WA pet owners.

Update: I made a Google Map of the emergency vet clinics in the area.

Stanley at the dog park

A little on the breezy side, but a nice morning to head out to the dog park with the dogs.

Stanley 2011

Another Stanley arrived in mail today courtesy of the lab retriever forum. He arrived just in time for a busy weekend I have in store.

We started off with Friday Night Dinner at Ted’s Butcherblock. A very tasty roasted chicken with a fennel spinach salad and some smashed potatoes. Friday Night Dinners at Ted’s are always awesome.

The Red Bull Illume exhibit was having an opening night bash that the photo meetup group managed to score some tickets for, so that was where we headed after dinner.

In typical Lab fashion, Stanley was eying these little crab cakes pretty hard.

We had a good time at the exhibit checking out some pretty amazing photographs. If you’re around, definitely stop by Marion Square and check them out.

More Stanley adventures to come. See the rest of the pictures over in the gallery.

Dog show weather

It looks like for the first time since I’ve been going, there will actually be nice weather for this year’s Charleston Kennel Club dog show! Weather normally isn’t an issue for the regular dogs, but the CSCLRC part of the show has always been outside (at least as long as I’ve been going). The labs don’t never really seem to mind the weather and the handlers just dress appropriately. You don’t really see a lot of the primping and preening with the labs that you see with the other dogs inside.

Weather should be nice today hitting 17°C later this afternoon. The ground hasn’t been turned into a soggy muddy mess from being soaked by rain the previous night. There’s no rain in the forecast for the weekend.

This should be a great weekend for a dog show!

Sending off The Pack

Time for The Pack to head off to its next destination in Georgia. I didn’t get a chance to take it around Charleston as much as I had planned, but at least I got to take it out with the dogs. It’s kind of neat. I’d think about getting one, but I’m pretty sure it would eventually end up in storage somewhere and be discovered again years later like this one.
One last inspection by Nala before I packed it up.

I also found a nice little pin at the bookstore to send along with the Pack.
