TS Andrea 2013

June’s only a few days old and the first storm of the season is out in the Gulf of Mexico. The advisory for TS Andrea was issued a few hours ago and seems like it just popped out of nowhere.

I’m heading out of town to Charlotte for Southeast Linuxfest, so hopefully it’s nothing more than a lot of rain and some wind. It doesn’t look like Andrea will spend enough time over open water to strengthen much more so that’s good. The forecast track has it traveling along the coast reaching the Charleston area around Friday morning. Looks like it will be moving fairly rapidly by then so it should be over quickly.

2011 Atlantic hurricane season

NOAA says it’s going to be a busy hurricane season this year in the Atlantic.

12-18 named storms, 6-10 hurricanes and 3-6 major hurricanes projected for this year’s storm season.

Each of these ranges has a 70 percent likelihood, and indicate that activity will exceed the seasonal average of 11 named storms, six hurricanes and two major hurricanes.

Time to get prepared.

Hail in my yard

A pretty intense thunderstorm moved by and dumped a pretty significant amount of marble sized hail on the house.
