Simba Sockhunter

Simba has taken to digging out socks from the laundry pile now. I’m not sure where he picked that up from, since Nala doesn’t do it anymore. I’ll find a sock on the ground here or there while walking through the house. Occasionally I’ll catch him sniffing through the laundry baskets probably looking for a sock to nab. I even caught him once with a sock dangling out of his mouth looking at me like it was time to play with a new toy he found.

I don’t think he’s eaten any yet, but I guess it’s time to start closing the closet door again until I can get him to stop going after socks.

Moo dogs

Lately the dogs have taken to grazing on the grass in the back yard. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s getting long and they think it’s fun to play with, or if they just have a grass munchy thing going on or what.
Usually they’ll bite off a few blades (Nala likes to go after the seed stalks), munch away and then hack it up a few minutes later if it doesn’t end up going all the way down (I guess it gets stuck in their throat and tickles it or something). Nala also likes to go after fallen leaves (maybe it’s a crunch thing). Some days it’s like I have a pair of small cows or goats.
I’ve heard some dogs will eat grass to make themselves throw up if they’re not feeling well. This doesn’t seem to be the case with Nala and Simba though. Judging from what I’ve read over on the Lab board, it seems like pretty normal (albeit odd) behaviour.
Maybe I should add some salad to their diet…

Fuzzy rugs

The way these dogs are shedding these days, I’m surprised I don’t have two bald labs yet. After a few days the carpet starts looking blacker than the dogs do!

A full vacuuming of the house means emptying the Dyson at least 3 times.

I know Labs shed a lot. It’s what they do. Eat, sleep, shed. This is getting a little silly though.

The dogs like to get cozy

Nala and Simba both have their own crates in the bedroom that they sleep in. Now that they’re older, I can leave the doors open and let them sleep where they want. Nala usually walks into her crate for the night while Simba usually flops down on the floor somewhere.

The last couple of nights though, they’ve been sharing the same crate at night. Simba just walks in there, curls up in the back and uses Nala for a pillow. She doesn’t seem to mind the company and hasn’t kicked him out yet or anything. It’s kind of cute to see them both in there.

Dog park people

So what is it with people who bring their dog to the dog park, and then spend the entire time yakking on their cell phone instead of playing with their dog?

Dog park isn’t supposed to be just another place to ignore your dog. It’s supposed to be a place where they can go meet and play with other dogs and where you can go have fun playing with your dog and let them run around without worrying that they’ll run out onto the street and get hit by a car or something.

Gotta wonder about some pet owners sometimes.
